Two methods of compost preparation are prevalent for white button mushroom cultivation. In both these methods, the compost mixture is rotted on the floor outside, one of which is a miniature method, which is used on large farms. In this short method, after about ten days, the compost mixture is filled into a special type of room, known as a sterilization chamber or tunnel. The floor of the sterilization chamber is made of mesh.
Good quality fresh straw which is not soaked in rain should be used for making compost. Mustard straw can also be used in place of paddy straw or wheat straw, but poultry manure must be used with mustard straw. The quantity of all the ingredients can be increased proportionately to make more compost. In case of non-availability of farmer manure calcium ammonium nitrate, the amount of urea can be increased proportionately. document.wheat' But the nitrogen content in fresh or raw compost should be around 1.6-1.7 percent. The following three formulas have been developed for making compost manure by scientific method.
On the first day, spread the wet straw in one feet thick layer and mix well with chemical fertilizers like 6.0 kg farmer manure, 2.4 kg urea, 3.0 kg super phosphate, 3.0 kg murate of potash and 15 kg wheat bran. After this, make a pile of straw 5 feet high, 5 feet wide and as per convenience in length. After 24 hours of making a pile of straw, the temperature inside the heap starts increasing. The temperature ranges from 70 to 80 degree celcius in the central part of the heap and 50 to 60 degree celcius in the outer part.
6th day (1st turn)The outer part of the pile dries up due to exposure to air, so that the compost does not decompose well. The compost is turned over to bring part of the compost material to the correct temperature. While turning the pile, keep in mind that the outer part of the pile comes in and the inner part comes out and sprinkle water lightly on the dry part outside. After mixing the remaining 3.0 kg farmer manure, 1.2 kg urea and 15 kg bran at the time of this reversing, make the heap again in the shape of 0 days.
Day 10 (2nd Paltai)Take out one foot of the outer part of the compost heap and sprinkle water on it and put it in the middle of the pile while turning. At the time of overturning, dissolve 5.0 kg molasses in 10 liters of water in the compost and mix it well with all the compost and make a pile again as before.
The finished compost looks dark brown in colour.
The moisture content of manure should be 60-65%.
The nitrogen content in the manure should be about 1.75-2.25 percent.
The compost should be completely free from the smell of ammonia gas.
Manure should be free from pests and pathogens.
The pH value of manure should be between 7.2-7.8.
